  1. A basic Yamaha 5.1 surround sound receiver is less than $200 and probably the best for the money. For speakers, I never recommend anything less than Klipsch. On eBay, you can find authorized Klipsch dealers who will sell you a Klipsch Quintet system (right and left front, center, and right and left rear speakers) with a 12-inch powered subwoofer (SW-12) for about $600.

I was able to buy this system used on eBay for about $350, plus shipping, a couple years ago. I also picked up a factory-refurbished Yamaha receiver for $125, plus shipping. It's an awesome system for the money and it works just fine.

  2. cheap & best surround system ... http://www.oxyshopping.com/oxysearch.jsp...

  3. "Good" and "as cheap as can get" are two incompatible things.  At the lowest end, you can look at a decent self-powered 5.1 speaker set made for computers, like the one linked below, for under $60.   (This won't have a remote volume control and you might need to get some adapters since the hook-ups aren't optimized for your TV's outputs; also you won't get big Home Theater boom-bass out of it).

If you have a slightly bigger budget you can get a reasonable entry-level setup with a real subwoofer, under $300 (see second link for an example).

  4. If you want cheap it will sound cheap

    1. you need to buy a reciever

    2. you need to by speakers and a sub

Onkyo makes great stuff for cheaper ($300)

    try this one
