I have two years left of college and my goal is to become a probation officer after graduation. i plan on obtaining my masters degree also and becoming a federal officer. I live in the Kansas City area so I could probably make it in this state with the crime rate?

  1. Not to be a butthead, but John S said CA is in dire need of PO's and will take anyone at this point...so not true.  Yes we need more PO's, but most counties can't afford to hire many right now.  The application process is tough in all counties.  There's an extensive background investigation one has to go through.  As a PO, you're a peace officer with a badge, and that badge carries a lot of liability.  I would definitely recommend it as a career, however, no matter what state you decide to do it in.  We make good money and have a very rewarding job.  Good luck!

  2. California, it's in dire need of them and they'll take just about anyone at this point.  Not to mention they are paying extremely well however you will have to go to some rough neighborhoods once in awhile.
