  1. a great way to get a good system is buying used. expecially if it was only used for shows or contests. I know a bunch for sale if your interested. email is pfritzlo10@yahoo.com

  2. mtx magnum... look at circutcity.com

  3. If you want a good system for very little pay go with phoenix digital amps 1600 or 2000watts and Q-power 12" subs.  Installed in a friends car and they really turn heads and they arent expensive at all. You can also purchase Q-power wiring kit.

  4. When it comes to stereo systems, like most things, you are going to get what you pay for. If you buy super-cheap parts, you probably won't be getting high quality output.

That said, you also don't have to spend thousands of dollars to get decent sound in your car. First, you will need a head unit. You'll be able to pick up a good unit for around $150-$300, depending on the options you want included. Keep an eye on the sales of local electronics stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, Tweeter, etc), as they will often offer free installation on certain units. Self-wiring isn't difficult, but if you aren't comfortable taking it on, just try to take this route.

Next, you can either go with upgrading your stock speakers, or adding subwoofers. I'll address subwoofers first, as that is the path that most people that I've talked to have taken. For these, you'll need a sub or two, a box for the sub(s), an amp with similar power rating to the subs, and an amp wiring kit. Again, an electronics store will be able to help you pick the right equipment for your goals and price range. A good base would be a 12" sub or two (around $100), and an amp with similar RMS ($250).

For speakers, you can either upgrade to amped component speakers, or you can simply replace the factory speakers with higher quality speakers of the same size. The latter is your best bet, since you are so new to car stereos. They will go into your stock speaker location, and run off of the stock wiring, so installation is as simple as taking the old speakers out, and hooking up and mounting the new speakers. You should be able to get a good pair of speakers for $100 or so.

    Good luck!
