I've got a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire Coupe and I wanted to put a system into it. I'm new to this so I don't know anything about systems and which ones are good. I just want one that doesn't sound crappy and produces a good vibrating bass. Price doesn't matter. And also, is there a way I can get it all together, like the box, subwoofers, speakers, amp, etc? Or would I have to buy it all separetely? thanks!

  1. many answers here....and all different....lol

over the years i have come to realize that you get what you pay for, especally in audio. listening to the equipment before you buy is the best way to determine what componentes you should get. however, the other thing i have found out is the equipment you get from best buy and circuit city is usually garbage and the people there are generally kids that don't know that much to begin with. so i have resorted to internet research and trial and error. because of this, some of the brands i may recommend most have never heard of before. but in the long run they wish they had.

from my own experience, i like clarion head units. (probably the only main stream brand i support)

as for speakers check out focal, diamond, the higher end MB quarts, ADS, rainbow. get good sound up front, the rear speakers are just fill. (when your at a concert the sound is in front of you, right?) do try and get the same brands, but put your main focus up front.

the sub (should only need one if you do it right) check out REaudio.com, memphsis, DD, soundsplinter.com, Fi. do not get a c**p box! the box makes the sub! have one built specifically for that sub, any of the one i mentioned work excellent in a ported enclosure.

as for amps check out cadence (my favorite), DD, mmats, zapco, the higher end soundstream, USamps.

don't let anyone talk you into buying a power cap. they are worthless and a waste of $$.

if you do this and you start looking around, you will more than likely end up with a lot more questions. feel free to contact me with any you have. i also design and build custom enslosures if needed. (not sure what the guy above me is saying about ported boxes....lol)

    good luck!

  2. for a good base you can feel you will need 12 or 15inch subs

    i have 2.

i have found that for a first time get a FUSIION base kit.

you get 1 12inch sub (already boxed), 2 6x9's, amp and all the wires and fuses to rig it up.

  3. whoever just posted before me doesn't know what they are talking about. I don't have time right now but email me or I'll come back to this later and give you some info.

  4. Whatever you do DONT GO TO BEST BUY unless you really want to waste ALOT of money on nothing.... lol I have 2 12's rockford (their subs lol)  and like a 1000 or 1200 watt amp cant remember and dont feel like going outside and an alpine cd player.... I love the way mine hits.... and its SOOO LOUD in the backseat... if your in FL i can recommend an awesome place to get it all done at! and I have all that in  my  03 civic....Good luck.

  5. Whatever you do, do NOT go to Best Buy.  I had an Alpine system installed just over 2months ago and yesterday, it just stopped working...they refused to check it out for me unless I paid $40.  ???  I just dropped $500 2months ago and now they want another $40 to tell me why it quit working?

    Stay away from Best Buy.

  6. Go to a Best Buy near you they have a whole section for systems. The people there really know their stuff and they will give you the best one they have in stock. They helped me!

  7. well i'm sorry to say, but with as little information(and as much money as you won't mind spending) you will most likely be installing several systems in your sunfire before finding the right one. commonly keeping the same brand names is a good idea, but i've never honestly seen any advantage. usually when you 'get it all together' it's not going to sound it's best, but hey some people like to just buy anything that will fit as long as it 'sounds good'. which brings us back to your bass, do you prefer loud or deep? it's easy to produce either, but expensive to produce both. i personally prefer deep, it's not as loud as the next guy but it shakes your internal organs and keeps doing so 100 feet away. loud vibrates everything on your dash and hurts your ears, and pretty much goes away about 50 feet later. if you like loud then a bandpass or ported box with 10s(properly installed) will make you throw up or lose your hearing. deep bass will require 12s in a sealed box or a very well tuned ported box(good luck) with a much larger amp. but be careful with the tuned box idea because it will be loud as well and sound crappy so you'll have to adjust the crossover accordingly. i've seen cheap subwoofers sound better than expensive ones. same goes for speakers/amps/heads. i suggest you look at reviews for each of these items as they come out with new products all the time so i could never keep up. if i were you i'd get a really good pioneer head, audiobahn aluminum 12s or maybe even autotek meanmachine 12s(my personal favorite), a fairly large sealed box...like 2 cubic feet per chamber depending on what the specs call for. and oh say a 1500 watt class d amp. fairly inexpensve plate speakers for the doors. and a 3 farad capacitor and make sure your battery is in tip top shape. there is a lot more stuff you could do, but like i said you'll probably be changing things as you go, so we may as well keep it pretty simple. then save up more money for the tickets you'll get.
