I have a male neighbor who likes to stand out on his back deck and watch my back yard when Im in it. He can see right over my 6' privacy fence. I feel very uncomfortable about this mostly because I have a 10 year old daughter. I have said hi to him several times and he never even acknowledge me. He has a significant other who is pregnant and also has a 3 year old son. I don't want to be watched in my backyard especially in my pool. Right now I have 2 queen size sheets hanging to block his view of my pool. I also have some arbivotae ever greens planted along the fence but theyre only like 12" tall right now. What do you suggest I use to raise the height of my fence to make sure he can't see through to give me some piece of mind and freedom in my own back yard. I was thinking of pssibly a double layer lattice? what else could I use?

  1. Your local building code will not allow a fence over six feet in a residential area. Some pine trees may be another option.

  2. I think some lattice on top with some ivy or roses, any vine plant would look really nice, as well as give you that added boost of privacy!

  3. If it had been earlier in the year I would've suggested a nice tall trellis and morning glories, clematis or some other flowering vine growing on it providing a block that's pretty.  Or even growing green means on the trellis to provide fresh veggies...

As it is, probably the best bet would be the double layered lattice.  Check your local zoning board's regulations on fence heights and such before you start though.

  4. Good Fences make good neighbours...to preserve dignity replace it with a taller fence as if you are just replacing not dealing with a nosy neighbour because if you just replace the lattice work, they'll know it's because of them which could escalate nosiness into something more vicious.
