What is a good time for a mile for a 14/15 year old girl?

I am 14 right now and turning 15 in September. I am going into high school next year as a freshman. Its been a year now since I really have been serious about running. I ran a race in May (5m) with a time of 51:31. That put me off with an injury for about 3 months. So only now have I been able to run again with no pain or discomfort. I recently ran a mile in about 8:20. I am only trying to get better. Anyways Ultimately I want to know where I stand as a runner and if that is acceptable and good enough for my age and high school next year. I will try to advance and bounce back fast by running every other day along with swimming and bicycling the resting days. I am planning on doing track and cross country. Where do I stand?

  1. i am 16 now however when i was around 14 and a half i was running 5. min. miles but i finished distant in front of others. most girls i ran with ran 6.45 and 7 mins but never finnished well in meets. now i train with a extreme workout 6 days a week and my time is still putting me ahead of most high school juniors and seniors my age. so if you work at it you will deff. be able to reach a good mile it takes time and training as well as alot of motivation to get there.

  3. 8:20 is not an ideal time for racing. Anything under 7minutes is pretty good. For now, aim for under 8 minutes. I am a 400 and 800 runner. My 800 was 2:40 and my mile was 7:40 haha. I sort of fail at the mile. Our scool record holder runs a 5:26 mile and most of the other girls are below 6:30 and can place at most meets. XC will help with track greatly. If you have the speed, all you need is endurance. Just remember to stretch and ice no matter what because I have had shin splints that do not go away and I cannot run as well as I like to

  4. its a decent time for an average person ur age, but if ur doing track or cross country i would say u would need to get it about 2-2 1/2 min. faster  

  5. 5:30 is a good time anything under 6 is also good 6-7 is decent

  6. just train, these girls with 5 minute mile are called "elites" , don't let any of them tell you you're bad.  Just train and get it.
