  1. if your a guy you probably will wanna be below 23 for girls probably 26 unless you want to make varsity then for a guy below 17  and a girl 19...but dont really worry about what you start at because you can improve a lot just work on beating your previous time. for the race make sure you drink a lot of water and stretch plenty...if possible eat a banana or a peice of toast at least an hour and a half before...just know its only 3 miles and it will be over with soon and the faster you run the faster your done. good luck!

  2. For a  year old and a first year runner your time should defiantly be under 26 minutes. Try to aim for a 24 or 25 minute race. To get that time you must train hard and pace yourself throughout the whole race. Saying you're going to get a 25 minute race you must run a consistent 8:20 mile. That's relatively easy time to achieve. Good luck on your first race and on your whole season!!! =)

  3. I was in the same situation as you were last year.  Depending on your level of fitness, and if you've run before, there's a great range of times that are good.  If you've never run a distance race before, and your mile time is around 8 minutes, look to break 30 minutes.  If you run around a 7-minute mile, try to break 26 minutes.  If your mile time is around a 6:30, as mine was, go for a time in the 23-minute range.

Tips?  Be sure to eat well and hydrate properly.  Stretch, as it will make a big difference.  Look at the first race as a time trial, because you haven't run it before.  This first race will allow you to learn the course, and learn a bit about pacing.  You may go out too fast or too slow this race.  Try to keep with someone who you train with.  Ideally, this person will be about your pace, and will know the course, so they can give you advice as you go.

Good luck, and have a good season!
