Question:

What is a good topic?

I'm trying out for Forensics, the English kind not the CSI kind or etc, etc, and I picked out Original Oratory; which is to come up with a speech that will persuade your audience is the right/wrong thing to do, etc, etc.

So, I thought about a couple of topics I wanted to write about:

1. Addictions to NOT ONLY drugs, but cellphones, the Internet, etcetera.

2. Racism not only for African Americans, but also for Hispanics, Italians, Asians, Caucasians, etc, etc. Although everyone already/SHOULD know that this is in fact wrong.

3. Political parties, however I am oblivious to these types of things, hard as I try not to.

4. Abortions of teenage pregnancies. I really, REALLY want to do this one because it is a topic that is really concerning the world today, and you really have to think about it. But I'm not fully experienced.

I want to top last year's persuasive speech with the 4th topic or any other interesting ones. Help?

  1. 4 woul be gould. first of all you have you mind and heart set at it, and you are determind about the topic. second it is and will become a big issue in few years. so ill say go for no. 4

  2. i would say do 2. Racism did not end therefore it is up to our generation to stop it. Racism is not going to stop on its own. God didnt put us here to be hateful and prejudice. God put us here to serve him. Racism is a very good topic.

  3. If you want to do number 4 because it's something you feel so strongly about, go for it! Your passion will help your persuasive power.

Personally, I would go for #1 because I have taken an addictions class and I'd like to see what research surfaced. Also, # 1 is going to give you the strongest factual evidence to back up your argument since all addictions can be traced back to empirical evidence like brain chemistry.

I know that anything that stimulates dopamine can be addictive, and the habitual behavior pattern that immediately precedes an indulgence is half of the addiction (which is why many drug users have little rituals they go through before each use). So behaviors, objects, almost anything can be psychologically addictive, even if it doesn't create a tissue dependence.
