  1. Begin in Barcelona, then go to north to Bilbao, go to Santiago de Compostela. if you want you can go to oporto and lisbon. Return to madrid and visit then toledo, cordoba and granada. you can go to malaga, gibraltar.

  2. WE did a trip to Spain last year.  Started in Madrid with a tour of the Royal Palace, then walked to the Prado Art Museum and finished with a bus tour of the city for highlights.  The city stays up all night, kinda like NY city and folks were coming and going at all hours and the young folks were still up and out at 6:00 AM, going home from clubs.

We then took the train from Madrid to Barcelona.  That was a nice ride, about 4 or 5 hrs.  We had a tour of Barcelona after our cruise that included Gaudi Sagrada Familia Church as well as Las Ramblas.  We saw the Olympic stadeum also.

  3. You could start at Bilbao, Madrid or Barcelona.  Bilbao might be a good start - you could actually ferry there from England.  The Gugenheim Museum there is world-class and this is in the heart of Basque country.

Go from there to Madrid.  To me, the art museums are the finest feature of Madrid.  If you are a sports fan, you might enjoy seeing a football match of Real Madrid, but I'd rather see a match in Barcelona myself.  If you are young, the very late night life and very early morning life will be to your liking.

Through Andalusia, you will enjoy Cordoba, and Sevilla known for "la Feria", and Granada, known world-wide for the Alhambra.    Along the South of Spain, you will find Malaga and ultimately the coastal region including Marbella and Puerto Banuz.  Beautiful Mediterranean areas.  You can also visit  Gibraltar from there or take a brief trip to Morrocco.

From there, I would go to Barcelona, center of the Catalan region, home of the famous Gaudi Sagrada Familia Church as well as Las Ramblas.  It's a beautiful city and well worth seeing too.

There are other wonderful parts of Spain but this would be an excellent first visit.
