Question:

What is a good tree to plant?

I'm looking to plant quite a few trees along our horse pasture as both a windbreak and privacy screen. We live in central Wisconsin, the soil is good black dirt with some clay. It doesn't need to be dense, just to fill in the field a bit. The neighbors are almost 1/4 mile away. Ideally, I'd like a reasonably fast growing evergreen, if there is such a thing. We do get a strong west wind most of the winter, so it will have to be a particularly strong tree. The months of March and April are usually fairly wet, too. Any ideas?

  1. THere's this rare leafy plant that my mother named me after it's called a Wamishda plant!!! Check it out! It blossoms in the fall and I LOVE YOU =D

  2. any tree is a good tree

  3. A sand cherry tree

  4. Evergreens or ferns in a tight row would probably be good for breaking the wind and will act as a snow screen too. The only thing is they take years to mature.10-20 or slightly less.

  5. Yeah, I'm with the guy above me, weeping willows are beautiful. But they do uproot easily when it comes a strong wind or storm.

  6. Weeping Willows are Beautiful!!

  7. I like magnolia's.  I've planted them before.  What stinks is if there is a lot of hard pan, they won't grow very fast.

  8. I would say Blue Spruce, or White Pine.  Pine trees will grow very fast, but are less dense than a spruce.  I also like the look of a spruce tree much more.
