Question:

What is a good vacation spot for a family with teens?

We took a trip last summer to a secluded river spot where we could swim and relax. Our kids loved it. We basically had 2 miles of river to ourselves. I'd love to take them to the Caribbean since our oldest is 18 and this could possibly be our last big trip together with all 5 of us. Where can we go that the beaches are not too crowded? We are not into the resort/casino scene and want a place where we're not competing for beach chairs with the rest of North America.

  1. For teens i would recommend Antigua. Its a great island and there are many hotels to stay at. You should try:

-Jolly Beach Resort - Its great for families.

Antigua has a great theater, lots of night life and your teens might meet some of the local teens who are always great. Google search it for hotels.

  2. Jamaica ! Sandals Resort Negril ! Jamaica is beautiful !

  3. You should check out www.jsgetaway.com there are many many vacation ideas.  Have Sandals resorts, lots or caribbean ideas.  Tons of stuff that the whole fam could enjoy.

    Hope this helps

  4. What about a cruise to the Virgin Islands. I think an 18 yr old would truely love that, my grandma took me for my 16th b-day and I wasnt excited because I didnt know what it was like, but being on that ship was one of the best times of my life.

Florida is also beautiful. If you have a boat you can get to the Bahamas in little time.

  5. There are so many great options, but price can be a factor when looking for the nore secluded options.  Here are a few in the U.S. and Caribbean. The Beaches properties in the Turks and in Negril are great - but if you are looking for a bit of quiet/calmness, you will be disappointed.  Royal Caribbean has a great teen program as well.  There again though, you are looking at a lot of people in a confined space. I hope these help.

Helen, GA.-rent a cabin.  The area is beautiful, about 1 1/2 hrs from Atlanta.  We've been there twice - you can go river tubing, horseback riding, great hikes to waterfalls, lakes where you can kayak/canoe and more.

Captiva Island, FL - Great property!  Upscale, luxury, great beaches, great shelling, kayaking, relaxing, just ahhhh.  Look at South Seas Resort

Clayaquot Wilderness Lodge - This is know as "glamping" - luxurious camping.  It looks a bit pricey, but includes a Lot!

Belize - spend a few days on Ambergris Cay at the Banyan Tree Villas and then go into the Cayo District and spend some time at The Blancaneaux Lodge.

Costa Rica - Try either Paradisus Playa Conchal or Occidental Grand Papagayo.

Canouan Island - Raffles Resort.  I had a mother and daughter(clients) that went here for 4 nights and loved it!!!!

    St Kitts - The Marriott

Turks and Caicos - Grace Bay Club, Point Grace, or Parrot Cay Resort.  As I mentioned, there is a Beaches, but it can be a bit crazy.  These other properties are a bit more refined and relaxing.

Whatever you decide.  Have a great vacation and enjoy the family time together.

  6. Ok you just said you dont like resorts & everyone is telling you Sandals resort, LOL.

I think you should check out Vieques or Culebra Island in Puerto Rico. They have some secluded beaches & others with very little people. The beaches are gorgeous sugar white sand & crystal water. Red Beach & Sunbay Beach in Vieques are nice & Flamenco Beach in Culebra was rated one of the best 10 in the world! Both islands have great snorkeling too. There are no large hotels, just vacation rentals (small inns, homes & villas). They both have a small town with restaraunt/bars. Vieques has wild horses too. Plus Vieques has a bioluminescent bay, the best one of only a few worldwide. It glows in the dark & you take a kayak tour . Its amazing.
