I'm trying to keep the attention of children 18m to 3yrs old. Maybe something the older kids can help display, not too big or just something really colorful to keep their attention.

(I put this under preschool but this is for church)

The words to the song are as follows:

Jesus wants me for a sunbeam to shine for him each day.

In every way try to please him at home at work at play.

a sunbeam, a sunbeam, Jesus wants me for a sunbeam a sunbeam a sunbeam, I'll be a sunbeam for him.

  1. A child on the sunbeam as if it were a slide...

  2. One tool that is great to use for things like this (and especially when you have such a wide age range, which I totally understand- did early children's church for 4 years)-

...is SIGN LANGUAGE!!!  Even older infants can catch onto sign language.  (for specific words such as "Jesus, sunbeam, work, play, etc.)

...Another idea is to use PROPS. For instance, have them (maybe just the older ones) hold up a sign of a "sun" every time the word "sunbeam" is sung...Another prop that would be great for the older ones would be giving each of them a flashlight to turn on when the word "sunbeam" is sung...The last prop that would be great would be the use of "ribbon wands" or something to that effect that the kids could wave, etc.

...As far as a larger display- the idea that I would use is a large board or felt board perhaps that is pretty much blank or has a few things already on it (background, such as grass and the sky with a cloud in it, etc.).  Then, each time something new comes into the song have them (probably the older ones) place the new item on the board (I.E.- adding a sun during the first line at "to shine for Him"; children playing at the line "at work at play", etc.)

Anyway I hope that one or more of these works for you!

  3. the sun
