What is a good visual way to identify sweet corn from field corn (if there is one)?

I mean when it is growing in the field.

  1. Sweet corn will always be a lot shorter than field corn.  It will also be a lot earlier if planted at the same time.


  2. shortness and smaller then reg. corn.

  3. Sweet corn is shorter, male flower is different than the usual, and kernel is smaller too.

  4. Don't know if this will help or not, but when my dad used to grow corn for us to eat, the kernels were much smaller than the field corn we fed our horses.  That may have been because he usually grew bantam corn for us, Silver queen, I think.

  5. Field corn will usually be in a much larger field.  It is also usually a lot taller corn.  The grains will usually be starchier.  Sweet corn is usually grown on smaller acreage since it is mostly hand picked.  It will most likely be in a garden type environment.
