What is a good way to calm down and do some homework?

I go to a Montessori school and I am going into seventh grade. This will be my first year with homework. I am sort of scared that there will be too much homework and I wont have time for anything else. What is a good way to get things under control and get things done?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Hi Gracie!

The first thing I did when I had a lot of homework was to sit down and make a list of what things I had to do.  This helped give me a visual sight of what I needed to get done and helped me to really see what progress I made.

I then take about 2-3 minutes just to glance through things.  If I have some math assignments and reading assignments, I will look over the math problems (without answering them) then page through the reading material just to see how much there is.  This generally helps me from feeling frustrated later and thinking, "Ugh!  How much is left?"

Once I am through with that, I begin work.  I start with whatever I feel like starting on and I decide a stopping point.  The stopping point may be when you have finished your assignment.  It may be when you have read to page 12.  When you get there, allow yourself to take a quick break to the kitchen (5 minutes, at the most) or keep going if you're focused enough to do it.

Write down notes at every break on where you are on that sheet where you wrote down what you have to do.  Visually seeing some progress written down will make it easier for you to tackle the whole load.

Being a Montessori teacher, I'd love to know more about what you think of homework and whether it helps you.  (Aside from the stress you feel now).  Also, what are your teacher's attitudes towards homework?  Do they give definite assignments or do they allow you to decide a lot of it?  You don't have to answer, but if you e-mail me, I'd love to hear it (just click the e-mail link in my profile).

  2. Don't worry too much.  Get a good nights sleep every night, eat plenty in the mornings and throughout the day, find a quiet place to study..music helps (classical or jazz) I don't use music with words too much unless it's from a musical or something, and don't procrastinate (especially on projects).  As long as you get some habits down for high school you'll be A-OK!

  3. You won't get very much homework. If you can't handle 20 minutes of homework then you are ****** up high school.

  4. dude- you do homework!?

Do something better with your time!

  5. I know you think 7th grade is going to make you freak out and worried about grades... And that whole popular thing. What does popular mean to you ? Look sweetie there is nothing to worry about. You will never have that much homework all in one day. I will share with you a few things that helped me in middle school. First make sure your locker is always clean and organized. That way you know where everything is and get to it fast. Second you always want to be prepared for every class because this way you will get your work done and know where its at. On the homework thing well here what you should do. Okay make new friends in some of your class's because if your sick or something they can get notes for you or you can call them about the homework. Or if you still feel worried about this get together with a group of friends and go over the homework together Your parents and friends are there to help you. So just relax and take a deep breath. Your gonna be fine in no time. Just take an hour or half to study , go over homework, and review for tests. You will be fine. I promise.

  6. don't worry, if you never had homework before, then they'll probably go easy on you when you first start

you never get too much homework where you can't handle it, if you ever thought that was gonna happen
