What is a good way to do community service with a big group of people?

You need to make arrangements many weeks in advance -- it's hard to create volunteering opportunities for large groups for every group that wants them.

Activities range from site cleanups (beaches, parks, etc.) to building something (a home, a park gazebo, etc.). They can include providing a meal for a homeless shelter.
