  1. I used to use a CD case. Worked pretty well in a pinch.

  2. cover it the night before with a car cover or a tarp

  3. Don't use hot water.   It isn't whether the window is de-iced or not,  or any other factors,  it is only the sudden change of temperature causing locallized expansion of material.

Things that will work,  cold water,  windshield washer fluid at room temperature  or less,  scraping with credit card of other,

warming up the car is needless idling and costly.

  4. Cold water.

  5. You can start your car and let it heat up. Put your defroster up high and of course your rear window defrost on.

  6. use cold water.

  7. Hot water doesn't shatter the windows.

  8. Hot water will only shatter the window if they are already de-iced but still cold.  The ice on the window acts as an insulator to the safety glass & will protect the window from the thermal shock.

Also, the safety glass used on cars is extremely tough and coated on both sides by layers of clear plastic, which also provide some (not much) isulation.

If your still afraid to use hot water, use warm water (like you'd use for a bath).

    Other than that, you could try using;

    A space heater

    A blow dryer

tapping the ice with a rubber mallet (though this is far more likely to break the window)

Chemical de-icing using amonia,  rubbing alcohol or a brine solution (all of these have lower freezing points than water, but can damage the car's exterior)

Waiting for the weather to warm up.

Rubber spatulas  are a reasonable substitute for a scraper.

Using a combination of warm water & a rubber spatula will give you the quickest results.

  9. my x-wife was full of hot air, so I would get her wound up at me and jump in the car, she would stand in front of the car and scream at me which would deice the windshield in a couple minutes!

  10. use your drivers licence

  11. Cover when you park with a cardboard box or even a shopping bag.  Be sure to hold it down with the wipers.  When pulled off, the windows are fine.

Any hard flat item will tend to work as a scraper.  License, credit card, license, cd case.

  12. Your windshield wiper fluid will dissolve the ice. It may take several squirts though. Also, they sell cans of deicer at gas stations & places like Wal-Mart.

  13. mythle hydrate is the best ilive in northern canada and use it all winter  it dosent hurt the finish it is cheap by the gallon at hardwear stores

  14. Hot water won't shatter the windows boiling water will.

Use warm water and any flat plastic thing like a credit card or something.

Best thing to do would be to buy an ice scraper you can get one in any petrol station for a couple of quid.

  15. I've used a credit card before.

  16. i have used a c.d case a few times which worked pretty well.
