what is a good way to memorize the preamble of the united states constitution?

it is:

"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

I need to memorize it by Wednesday for a social studies test

  1. Break it into chunks, and "pegboard" it.

Think of something with a number of objects in a specific order that you have memorized, say the route from home to school, or the song order of a favorite album.

Then associate each "chunk" with a step in your chosen pegboard.

    for example:

"We the people of the United States" = Maple street, or Song #1, etc...

Make a visualization for each step. Think of a bunch of people holding American flags around the Maple st. sign, in my example.

Chunks shouldn't be much larger than 7 words.

  2. make a song! have fun!!!!!!!!!!

  3. My social studies teacher in middle school showed us this video and had us sing along with the preamble song.  I still remember it to this day.

The only difference is that the beginning goes "We the people OF THE UNITED STATES" and the song only says "We the people."

The song starts about a minute into it.

  4. First, parse it, to help you understand it. It's a LOT easier to memorize what you understand.

It's a single sentence, the basic structure of which is

We Ordain and establish this Constitution....

The main part in the middle is a list of purposes for creating the government.

So after you've got the beginning and end down, you can focus on all the reasons. Make sure you understand each one.

List them in a vertical list, and read them over a few times.

Then, hide your paper and try to recite the whole thing. Then check against the list, and focus on those you forgot.

It's a shame they're asking you to waste your time MEMORIZING it, rather than understanding it, which would be worthwhile.

When you're close to getting the whole thing committed to memory, get someone to help you.

    Recite, while they check you.

Another thing to do is to count the purposes; that way, when you recite it, you can count, and make sure you didn't leave one out.

    In order to:

    form

    establish

    insure

    provide

    promote

    and secure

    Six, there are.

Another thing is to get an image for each. Then build up an association between the phrase and the image. That will help you bring them all to mind.

  5. I had to memorize it for a play I was in in first grade, but I started reading when I was 3 I also knew four languages buy that time, I also skipped two grades while in school 2nd & 9th grades but then again my IQ is in the genius catagory also, so I may not be the best one to answer this question

  6. Just make it a song, that's the easiest way to get it down. The first couple lines are really easy anyway. It's the middle and end that are a little tougher. So sing!!

  7. Well what always helps me is to look over it a million times, and have a friend or someone help stdy with you. Another way that I do when I'm studying for a big test is to make a powerpoint with the question and u anwer it, and u click to see if its right. It doesnt take long to make one, and its kind of like flash cards. -And lastly a cool way is to get the letter before every comma and put it on a flash card, for example, "W" on one side of the card, and then on the other side: We the people of the United states....and then On another u put "I" on one side of the flash card, and then put: in order to form a more perfect union, and then put an "E" on another. etc....   But you should have the flash cards in the order they are in the preamble, so you dont get it all mixed up. I hope that helps at least a little, or gives you some ideas!!!
