What is a good way to read the spread winner in basketball?

Look at average points per game, points per game allowed, field goal %, free throw %, turnovers, and maybe (but not as much) 3 pointers.  I've found it's easier to bet over/unders on basketball, but about once or twice per week, a steaming hot pointspread pick can be had.  It's a lot easier to pick pointspread winners in the NBA as there is less variance in talent with NBA teams when compared to NCAA matchups.
