  1. When I was younger I had a poster that I drew lines on to point to all the different parts. Then I put velcro at each line, and had velcro answers.

I just attached the right names to the correct part using velcro, and it worked well!

  2. A great way is to go to shows, stables and barns and talk with horse owners, help them out, things like that. Hands on experience is the best way. We have high school kids come around quite often to help out who just want to learn. Luck.

  3. well wen ur around horses everyday it comes naturaly u know what there made of just like u know ur own self.. i sudgest u keep studing...

  4. If you have your own horse, go to a craft store and buy some finger paint.  Paint the names of the parts of the horse on your horse!  I have helped teach a few horse camps, and everyone always loved this activity (I must admit I liked it just as much as any of the five year olds) and they learned a lot too!

What are you learning them for?

  5. Draw them on a horse with chalk and leave the other side blank to practice.

  6. When reciting, start at the muzzle, end at the dock.

The legs are probably the most difficult, just remember:

    In the forelegs:

They have elbows like humans do.

They have shoulders like humans do.

They have knees like humans do.  And its the big joint.

The fore arm is the leg above the knee.

The cannon bone is the bone underneath the knee.

The fetlock joint, is the smaller joint that has a LOCK of hair (fetlock)

The pastern is below the fetlock joint.

The coronet band is right above the hoof.

And the hoof is a given lol.

    Hind legs:

    The 'forearm' becomes the gaskin

    The stifle replaces the shoulder

And where the knee would be is the hock (the pointy part lol)

    Nothing else changes.

    Other things that may help:

The jowls are just like the human jaw

The crest is where you would give the crest relese (if you jump)

The barrel is like a big barrel.  (on a human it would be the torso)

The chest, faces, tail, ears, etc. are all obvious.

The throat latch is where the throat latch of your bridle would go.

The heart girth is where your girth or cinch would go.

The flank is where the hair grows in seperate directions(the sensitive part of your horse's sides)

The poll is between the ears. Some refer to the top of the bridle as the poll band.

The withers is the lump where the mane ends.

Point of him is at the peak of the hip, point of buttocks is at the peak of the buttocks.

If you get to a point of the horse where you can't remember what its called, say the alphabet slowly and you may recall the name when you get to the first letter of the word.m (always helps for me on geography tests lol)

    Hope that helps?

  7. Find a book for the beginner equine anatomy artist...one that teaches you how to draw the structures.  One of the best ways to learn anatomy is by drawing it.

  8. All you can do it study and practice!
