  1. Yeah there are a lot of free easy ways to do it. I wrote a similar article in my blog at www.issuesof08.blogspot.com. Feel free to use some of the ideas. Good luck!

  2. You have to start thinking S-M-A-R-T. What kind of cutbacks can you make? For example: I drink bottled water. Now at $1 a bottle on something that covers over 65% of our planet is not smart. So I bought one of those water filters that s***w into your faucet. I have bottles that I refil over and over again. I take them to work. Do you have a lot of small appliances around that house that are always on? I cut my electronic bill almost in half by unplugging all the clock radios and night lights. I also bought some of those florescent bulbs that look a lot like a regular bulb. These things use 80% less electricity than regular bulbs. You would be surprised, but these small things add up. I know I was spending money on the water filter and energy efficient bulbs but these things will pay for themselves in a month providing they pertain to you. If you really need the money right away start cutting back on your food costs. Romain noodles cost a dime and they taste just as good as campbells chicken noodle that costs $130 a can. Ok no chicken in romain noodles, but you are probably just missing about 4 tiny pieces of chicken. Put a brick inside your toilet 'chamber'. You will use a little lesser water each time you flush..Before you know it you will be ahead. Wanna be creative? Find yourself leaving lights on? Buy a motion sensor switch, the lights will turn on when you enter the room and will turn off (by a set amount of time) when you leave the room. I have one, they cost $15 at HomeDepot. So remember you have to start thinking S-M-A-R-T! Yours truly seahorsehawrey.

  3. Fill your gas tank in the coolest part of the day (early morning or after dark) to help reduce the amount of evaporation that occurs while the pump is running. Refrain from quick starts from a stopped position. Reduce your driving speed (go ahead and let'em pass you and burn their gas in doing so!). Keep your tires inflated to the proper pressure, keep your oil and filter changed at the correct intervals, make sure your wiring harness is in good condition (plug wires, etc.) and all fluids are at the proper levels. Drive at a steady, consistant speed. Reduce un-neccesary driving (don't drive unless you really need to). Purchase gasoline at the octane rate that is proper for your vehicle (putting a lower grade of fuel may cause lower fuel economy and excessive engine wear). Proper maintainence, slower and more steady  driving speeds, less passing of other vehicles, and cut out un-neccessary driving are all things you can do to help reduce your driving expenses. You may want to consider carpooling with friends and/or co-workers, ride municipal transportation such as the bus, streetcar, or subway if available in your location. You may even consider riding a bicycle or walking, the exercise won't hurt you and will even benefit your health!

  4. Try not to drive around much, and do all your errands in one trip.

  5. Well buses and subways are pretty good and they are good for the enviorment too. Another good alternative is always walking and bike riding.

    Hope i helped

  6. walk

    ride a bike

you can limit all your trips in the car like going to the store etc. to doing it all in one day

    bus

  7. I HIGHLY recommend http://www.platinum-reviews.com/water4ga...

I can now use my car to get around again, without struggling to afford petrol prices as it has cut what I used to spend on petrol each month by half! Don't know what I'd do without it

  8. Carpooling.

Calling around to see if someone is going where you want to go or want something. i.e.

You want a new shirt, and a friend is going to the mall give the friend the money to get the shirt and presto you just saved a trip to the mall.

    ride the bus.

    taxi's with friends

  9. get a motorcycle

  10. gasdiscounterz.com sells gas cards for a few bucks less hoping to make a profit off of the traffic their site gets

  11. sell things that don't really need or use anymore that's what my mom is doing.

  12. I cancelled my text messaging and lessened the minutes on my cell phone plan to save money.

  13. park on the outskirts of town and use local transportation(trains/subways pass) to get around to avoid idling in traffic

    bike/walk

carpool friends to work/wife husband operation drop off at work

keep the vehicle in good working order and avoid hard acceleration

check online for the best prices and compare local prices

    goodluck

  14. There's a few websites that offer basic tips, and there's a few articles coming up. Here's some info I found really useful, I particularly like the videos too (kinda make you want to take a stand!):

    Article:

    http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Get-the...

    Videos:

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hta8l-lLhW...

(doesn't give you tips in that video, but an interesting watch nonetheless)

    Website:

    http://secretstohypermiling.com

(This website asks you for your name and email address in exchange for a free report showing you how to save gas 10 different ways. It's all about Hypermiling which is a new trend that has come out of the gas price inflation).

I gave my details and had no spam or junk email, just good solid advice.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your quest for improved MPG!

  15. You can save alot of money by simply changing your driving habits. First off, remove any excess objects that add weight to your car....less weight means your cars engine won't have to work as hard since its moving a lighter load. Second, check your air filter,if its dirty or old replace it immediately. A new air filter can make your car up to 15% more fuel efficient. Also, check your spark plugs and make sure they are in good condition, buying race-car quality spark plugs and replacing old ones can make your car up to 30% more fuel efficient, which is alot of savings! All of this isnt too expensive, and they will probably pay for themselves in a month. For more information on some great ways to save money on gas, check out http://www.tipsforsavinggas.net .

    I hope this helped!
