I am looking for a good inexpensive everyday red wine. I am new to wine (but am really enjoying it). Im half french. half Italian, so I immediatly had a "taste" for a lot of the good stuff. The problem is that I am still a college student and dont have a ton of $.

I know there are inexpensive red wines that get thrown into the premium wine tasting competitions and rank in the top 10 even though they were $10 bottles. I am looking for something like that. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  1. I'm pretty new to wine myself, and have found the above suggestion about going into a wine store and telling them what you told us, then letting them suggest things, works pretty well.

As for some actual suggestions, two reds I've really liked that weren't too pricey were both the Merlot and Cab Sauv from Barefoot winery.  I think it's in Napa, but all that where-it's-made c**p has never mattered to me.  All that matters is: Do I like it or not?

  2. Rex Goliath is a good cheap red wine, I would stay away from ports myself because they are too sweet for me. There are many to choose from that are available in grocery stores. Go to a liquor store that has a large selection of wines and tell them what you want. They may suggest some of the higher end ones though. I think half the fun of finding a good wine is trying them, buy a cheap one and try it with a friend or two. Some stores have tastings as well. good luck

  3. A very good red wine that is affordable is Bergerac, Vieux Papes  or something like Sarabelle. Of course I don't know how much they would cost in the US. Whenever I go home, I always bring several different bottles of wine with me because here the average good wine costs between one to four Euros and they are really very good.

  4. I love Black Box Merlot! its in a box with a spigot that lets no air in so it stay fresh for up to 2 weeks. Its very inexpensive at $18 for a 4 bottle sized box. And best of all its delish! Ripe black cherry flavor and has been tested and rated by the "experts" to be very good and a great buy.

  5. Canei, not to sweet, not to bitter

  6. port

  7. COSTCO!

  8. Go into a wine stores. Tell them everything u told us. They will who u an array of choices.

  10. Pinit eveil, it comes in a bottle or cash.  It is tasty

Barefoot is also great and cheap

  11. Turning Leaf, Berringer, Mondavi or Gallo all offer inexpensive wines (any varietal).

  12. check out a bevmo those things are everywhere...they have a ton of selections from the cheap stuff to the expensive stuff...and they have great deals all the time...like buy on bottle and get the second for a nickle...things like that...i always go there and try new things. im a broke collage student my self...and when i get really low on cash i just hit up the regular grocery store pick up a cheap bottle and hope for the best :)

  13. Red wine

  14. Try out the Forestville line of wines at $2.99 to $4.00 per bottle unless your getting their reserve bottle. They taste great and have a full line of reds. A guy at the supermarket hipped me to this brand. They've won awards against much pricier wines in competitions.
