Less than $7k?  You're going to be looking for a 10-yr old 3-series. Way out of warranty, expensive to repair and maintain, and probably over 100k miles.

I'd look at a newer Camry/Accord or the like.

Pre 1990.I'd rather have a Benz with a steel timing chain.I hate slipping breaking rubber belts.Been there,and learned.
