I want to take my husband to this Mediteranean restaurant, but he really isn't that into that kind of food, He is more of a cheeseburger kind of guy. Is there any kind of food that is close to something he would eat?

  1. Most of the time, you should be able to get a stewed chicken dish of some kind. Also, shawarma is a dish that's largely gyro meat... if he's ever had a pita pocket, that shouldn't be too foreign for him.

  2. Spanakopita if he likes spinach and cheese.  It's delicious!  So are gyros (meat on pita bread with a creamy yogurt sauce), moussaka (eggplant casserole), kleftikos (meatballs) or a nice greek salad with good feta and olives.  Don't forget the baklava for dessert!

  3. If they have Greek food, have him get the souvlaki.  It's grilled hunks of meat served with pita bread, onions, tomatoes and tzatziki (cucumber sauce) on the side.  If he's a cheeseburger guy, he'll at least eat the grilled meat on bread with onion and tomato.  It's a start.

When I met my husband, he thought Mexican food meant Taco Bell!  Now, after 22 years, his palate is almost as adventurous as mine, but it took some finesse on my part.  ;)

    Good luck!

P.S.  Does the restaurant have a website that lists the menu?  It might help him if he had a chance to look it over first.

  4. You have to be more specific, because Mediterranean food is pretty broad. Spaghetti is by defnition Mediterranean, since Italy is in the area.

I'd think a common street food like a doner kebab (aka Gyro or schwarma) would be a neat introduction to grecian, and middle eastern culture. It's simple, and it's easy to eat. It's pretty much just roasted meat shaved onto a folded pita with some veggies (and if it's Greek, tzatziki). it's like a middle-eastern/Mediterranean taco.

  5. Lamb roasted with garlic and rosemary, served with flat bread and a plate of fresh vegetables, a couple of dips (like humus and eggplant-garlic dip).
