What is a great alternative for a table centerpiece besides flowers, a bowl of fruits, or candles?

anything that has to do with the theme. i went to a masquerade party one time, and they had those little masks you stick up to your face in the center of the table. i went to a beach themed bat mitzvah and the centerpieces were little boats with the names of beaches on them with flowers in the center. i went to a car themed bar mitzvah and there were like thick cardboard things with expensive cars at the top. be creative!

balloon arrangements look very nice and are inexpensive

a fish bowl with a goldfish or any pretty fish inside

they have paper fold out centerpieces at party stores to pretty much match any party theme

depending on the party you can find tons of stuff to match the theme to use like baby items, stuffed animals, baskets with items inside, log cabins from Lincoln logs, framed photos, edible arrangements like fruit cut into shapes or decorated cookies, the list is endless.

Something that sets the tone for the theme of the party ..... I've set little stuffed penguins on different levels (with "snow" under them) in the winter ......  A wicker cornucopia with fruit, nuts & flowers in the Fall..... a small bale of hay, with a fiber-optic scarecrow for the Fall ....  Look around your house and see what's interesting!  Large bowls filled with water, and you can float candles in it;   Tall clear vases with glass pebbles or shiny Christmas balls .... A collection of small vases with only one big flower in each one ...... Artificial flowers stuck into a cowboy boot or high heel .......

flip wine glasses upside down, each one over a different flower, then on top (well really the bottom of the glass) put little candles and light them, its cute especially if all the glasses are mitch matched and different hieghts.

my grandmother does one that's seasonal... she has lots of beanie babies and she puts them together according to the season... it's actually cute.
