What is a great competitive swimmer's diet? (14 Y.O. swimmer)?

Everyday when I wake up I always want to know exactly what to eat b4 I start to swim. I've heard alot of different things that I should be eating, but I hear that these foods can only be good for weight loss and as slender as I am... I do not need to loose weight. So does anyone mind helping out my delima? I need something to add to my performance as well as something to wake me up, if possible. Now I need common grociery store found items so don't take it out of proportion.

  1. Before practice I eat cereal, blue berrys, oranges, milk and water. This is a perfect breakfast before swimming. After practice I eat power bars, and boosts (recovery drink) If you cant find boosts just go for poweraid. After every work out you have to refill the nutrients that you lost during practice. So it's very important to eat healthy right after practice, you only have about 30 min. to eat though right after practice . If you wait an hour after practice then what ever you are eating won't recover you from your practice that you just did.

  2. lots of green vegetables cuz you can never get enough, and proteins to build muscle meats, fish,and beans and eggs and stuff.and in the morning carbs for energy.

  3. well i know about waking up early for daylong swim meets definately salads and fetucinne or some source of whole wheat carbs 2 days before a meet and if you can find powerade gell those help you wake up sometimes they sell them at the site of the meet also our team thinks shlushies make you faster

You are looking for what is going to improve your practices and recover from workouts.  Carbs before and after practice are the best and gatorade or something like it during.  The quicker you can get the carbs in you after practice the better, within a half hour is ideal.  After practice try a pack of peanut M&Ms and a chocolate milk.  For the rest of your meals balanced is best.
