  1. Sir Ed Hilary

  2. either ol' sir Ed, or my personal fave "Barry Crump".

Crump was what kiwis like to call a typical old fashion bloke/kiwi.

He was an author and a bushman as well as being the face of the hilux ads in NZ "bugger".

if your looking at science, cant go past rutherford and sports would be Ed as mentioned prior and Lomu, most recognised rugby player in the world.

music minded people should look at the finn brothers and more recently evermore and the flight of the choncords.

humour is a big part of NZ culture and the best exponents of this in my opinion are the legendary Billy T James and to a lesser extent Mike King.

Billy was awesome and if you've never seen him perform on telly, i suggest you hire him out or download him. sadly hes gone now though.

movie fans would like old peter jackson, brain child behind the lord of the ring movies.

witi ihimaera was a good maori author also.

  3. Sir Edmund Hillary.

Unless you are looking for a living person, in which case I'd go with Sir Richard Hadlee or maybe Helen Clark. Ernest Rutherford is long since deceased, but should be better known than he is too. I think Sir Ed would be head and shoulders above all the others in terms of being internationally known.

  4. Sir Edmund Hilary has to be one of our greatest achievers that is known world wide for not only was he first to conquer Mount Everest , he did an amazing amount of good work for the people of the Himalayas. Ernest Rutherford was a great scientist known as Atom man. And we have the beautiful voice and person Dame Kiri Te kawana. Barry Crump is a well known Author and down to Earth New Zealander.

  5. Jake the mus..........?

  6. Russell Crowe
