Question:

What is a great way to gain acting experience for a beginner?

I have had no previous acting experience other then in school.

I asked earlier about e-mailing agents. But I hear time and time again now majority of agents will not take you without experience. But how do you book events without an agent? And if you have no previous experience how will you get a job?

Are there gigs that don't need experience, so that you can gain experience?

  2. First off, community theater and high school shows are a great starting point.

Then some sort of training, it'll probably cost a pretty penny, but if it's what you love it'll be worth it.

If you're particularly interested in film you can get involved with some independent stuff (craigslist is a great resource but you'll have to sift through a lot of crappy, not-worth-while listings, and try to be safe and smart about any auditions you go to).  A lot of times film students are desperate to cast their movies.  This way you can start building your reel.

You might also want to invest in an audition class; unfortunate as it is, audition acting and just plain acting can be very different.

    -Best of luck

  3. For beginners they want people that have done school plays and things around the community like charity work.

  4. you should try to take classes. Like you could go to a Barbizon school and take classes. then if you are really good they take you into their agency and you get a lot of jobs there.

  5. School, as in normal school, doesn't count as acting experience. Why would it?

You need acting classes and to get involved in some community theater. The more plays you've been in the better =)
