  1. Around here, we call a horse green broke when it has been trained to walk, trot, and canter under saddle...it may or may not include much backing experience, depending on who trained the horse.  that means the horse has not been trained to yield to pressure from the rider's legs, so it doesn't do lateral movement, unless you get lucky and it was taught lateral work in ground training.

A green broke horse is basically one that will allow you on it's back and can be cued to move forward and to stop.  Period.  Only an experienced handler should buy a green broke horse.

  2. green means young

    broken means trained under saddle

together it means a freshly trained horse that is very inexpeirienced.

    hope this helps : )

  3. green broke means ridden regularly for less than a year. if a horse has been broke, ridden every now and then for several years, i would consider it green broke because it has hardly been ridden at all. they are definitely NOT for beginners.

  4. i think you have answered your query realy i would say the fact that you didnt knwo what it meant means you should steer away from a green horse, the word green can be used in different ways!

to some green means it needs a little more schooling to others it means itll buck and rear. i'd stay away if you're not an experienced rider.

  5. From my experience it means;

If you try to ride him, you wind up in the GREEN grass with something BROKE. LOL!

  6. A green broke horse is one that has been recently started under saddle and doesn't have much experience.

A green broke that is properly started and has a good temperament will not normally buck.  Some older, experienced horses may buck.  It has a lot to do with the initial training the horse gets.  The main problem with a well started green broke is you don't know how they will react in new situations.

  7. green broke horse is one that has been started undersadddle, but doesnt have a ton of experience. they usually havent been to any shows or been off the property at all, they are in need of miles. A green horse is a good fit for a experienced rider who is used to riding green horses. they take a lot of work and knowledge to help them along. a green rider and a green horse are never really a good match, they dont usually undestand where the other one is coming from and confuse each other which can end up being dangerous for both horse and rider.

green horses are fun to train if you know what you are doing. I've trained 4 seperate greenies ottb's and they were awesome once i was finished. its an amazing thing to watch a horse who can barely canter around the ring without looking like a bike and feeling so super wobbley to having balance and be going somewhere when moving, and have the knowledge to keep them selves together and correct.

good luck, hope this was helpful

  8. That is a horse that is just starting out under saddle. If you dont want to get bucked off i would not start out with a horse that is green brock.

  9. Any horse is capable of bucking under the right conditons.  A green broke horse will most likely encounter those conditions more often.  It all has to do with temperment and experience.

Rule of thumb is that a green horse and a green rider = black and blue.

  10. I own a green horse! A green horse is a horse that has no or little training. My horse, we are training her right now, had no  training when we got her. We trained her from scratch... if you are getting a green  horse you need to be very experianced because you could get hurt (bucked...etc)! Remember to ride you new horse, have a vet check him/her out before you buy him so you know if he is a good horse for you. Remember you want a horse you can also grow into!

  11. a green horse is a horse that has little expieriance under saddle but knows how do walk and usually trot

  12. a horse that does not have much training, but is still broken. The opposite of a school master

  13. Green Broke means NOT for beginners. this horse has have little, if any saddle training.

  14. If you are getting a horse and don't really know much about them, I suggest riding at a barn for a while, then leasing, then buying. Get a dead broke horse. Buy one that is bomb-proof. You should know a lot about horses before you just go and buy one. You can find yourself getting into trouble because your horse may be goign through problems that you didn't even know existed. Make sure to have the horse wormed, vetted, teeth floated, have the blacksmith come, etc. You want to know as much as you can about horses before you buy one. (as you could imagine) They're a big responsiblility!

    Hope this helps.

  15. The first answer is great and has it right - but I just wanted to say that there is no such thing as a stupid question, if you really want to know the answer.  How else are you supposed to learn?  We've all been there, don't feel silly!
