Question:

What is a guest check from the guest's point of view?

I usually ask for the bill when i go to the restaurent and pay with my credit card. The other day, i seem to have asked the waiter for a check. He came back with a green colored paper with the title "guest check" and a number on it. On asking him, he said if my employer reimbursed my expenses, then i should give him a copy of this. Well, although i never did anything like that, i started "googling" for guest check but never found a suitable answer. Any explanations.

Thanks

  1. this is a receipt that is retained for reimbursements - it is a copy of the check that a guest retains

  2. You can ask for a guest check when you are dining for business purposes (like, say you took a client out to lunch to discuss a proposal), if your employer has agreed that the lunch will be payed for by the company. You actually pay the tab and then get reimbursed for it later by submitting the check to the company afterward. The little number on it is a number the restaurant keeps on file so that your company can find out how much you paid for the meal to reimburse you in full.

    I hope this helped!

Also, the words guest check also appear on the tablet used for taking your order. Just another little bit of information.
