A guitar "Fret" is each space you put your finger on. A skinny bar separates each "fret". The strings as of order -

E - Thickest - lowest sounding.

E - Thinnest, highest sounding.

I believe the term is "Guitar Fret", and its where you place your fingers on the neck to make different sounds and notes.

1st string is the low E (it's the thickest and the one on top)

2nd is the A  

3rd is the D

4th is the G

5th is the B

6th is the high E ( it's the thinnest and the one one the bottom)

I find the strings easiest to remember thinest to thickest (Easter Bunnies Get Drunk At Easter)  And if you're learning chords when they tell you to place a finger in the first fret, you will put your finger in between the first two bars on the guitar neck Visualize this as a guitar neck
