  1. Hedgehogs can have a healthy weight anywhere between 200g and 900g. Some hedgehogs are built bigger than others and, just like humans, are still considered healthy.

    A way to make sure that he or she is not overweight is to make sure that they can still roll into a ball. If they can roll into a ball comfortably, they are probably fine. Also, make sure that they are eating a low fat diet (the lite variety of a high quality cat food, supplemented with mealworms, cottage cheese, wet cat food, baby food, vegetables, cooked chicken, etc...) and that they have access to a large exercise wheel with a solid running base at all times.

    Obesity is serious and can lead to fatty liver disease. Being underweight is also dangerous, so if you are ever worried about the size of your hedgehog, make an appointment with your vet as soon as possible.
