What is a high SAT score?

High for what?

For the top colleges, a 1500 and up is pretty much necessary and a 1550 and up is high.

When average is 1000, 1100 is high in some circles.

I would define a high SAT score as anything 1300 or above.

A high score is around a 1500, but I know students at Yale and Harvard got in with low 1400s but had killer applications. An average score is probably 1100.

getting 700 on both categories, so about a 1400. i got 1230, which is above average, but not quite there.
