  1. It's something that draws you in - like a fish on a hook.

It can also refer to transitions between paragraphs and using the end of one paragraph to begin the next. Same idea - you've hooked someone in for interest and fluency. It's enticing and keeps the reader's attention throughout the whole essay.

    Hope that helps! :)

  2. A hook is the very first sentence in your introduction paragraph. You use it to draw readers to your essay. Basically it is supposed to make the readers want to continue reading your essay.

  3. It's a beginning sentence or two that entices the reader to read more.

  4. The hook of an essay is what draws a reader in and makes them want to read the rest of the essay. It's usually within the first couple sentences of the first paragraph. If it's not interesting, the reader will think the rest of your paper will be boring too :/

  5. its the writing characteristics that catch the readers attention and make them want to keep reading :D

    good luck

  6. It is basically an attention grabber usually at the beginning of the introduction paragraph in an essay. It is usually something interesting that makes the reader want more (theoretical Qs, interesting facts). An example would be "Every year, a Colorado-sized piece of land is deforested. If we do not mitigate this situation then..."

  7. The main function of a hook is to draw your reader. It is used in the introduction paragraph. There are many ways to write a hook. You can tell a story (ex: Imagine that you're in a place where...), use a quote, or ask a question.
