  1. They refer to the same thing. Basically, a web host/web server provides space for you to put files and codes for your website. If you want to start a website, you can look into building a free professional website with Microsoft Office Live Small Business - http://starturl.com/officelive . It has a great online design tool that lets you create web pages without coding. Currently, MS is offering a free domain (i.e. yourbusiness.com) for the first year.

  2. As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

One of these services is reachable at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . Their service is really great and easy to use. This company offers "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get).

You can also take a look at: http://threehosts.atspace.com/business There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry.

  3. He is correct in that you will need a hosting site or what most refer to as a website. This is the folders that contain all of the files that make up a website.

A web server is a place were you either rent space from a web host that in turn will publish all your website files on the internet.

To have a viewable website you need the 3 following things.

    1> Domain Name

    2> Website (all the files)

3> Web host (so you can serve you files to the web)

    hope this helps a bit.

  4. ?????, I found a large online list of personal web hosting services. http://www.findwebsitehost.com Locating a nearby webhosting service can have it's advantages because you can visit thier facility if you need help.

  5. You can host a website on your computer by installing apache or IIS.

The problem is that computer will have to be on 24/7 and dedicated to running it (the internet is alive 24 hours a day..not just office hours).. The problem is it is a pain in the bum (security wise), expensive and will only allow a certain number of hits (depending on your internet connection and processing power).

A hosting service takes care of this for you. You upload your website to the host (after paying as much or as little 2 dollars a month (or in some cases it's free, and you can use free web hosting... depending on the number of throughput you can expect), and you can access and manipulate your site and all things to do with it in (usually) cpanel.

You also need a domain name..which is the address of your site on the internet. These cost about 2 dollars for a year. And to get your site listed up there in google..you may have to pay about 50 dollars..

A host also provides you with a number of corporate email address which are very handY.

A lot of this stuff is learnt by experimenting..when you have a web host it all makes perfect sense.

  6. Your Web site will be sitting on a computer somewhere that is connected to the Internet. If you don't have a computer available for this yourself, you would have another business host the site for you. You would post content (code) on this third party computer, which would then function as a (literally) server, showing the Web site to visitors over the Internet.

  7. There are many web hosting providers and you might become confused to choose which one. I would like to tell you the web hosting I like to recommend. It is bluehost.

Why blue host? There are many reasons.

    1) It is reputable and reliable web hosting

    2) Their Customer Support is excellent

    3) You will get FREE DOMAIN ever

    4) You will get big webspace which is 1500 GB

    5) A lot of bandwidth or data transfer - 15000 GB

    6) They are AFFORDABLE and cheap

    7) Host unlimited domains, you create unlimited websites under one account

    8) Automatic installation script, Fantastico , install blogs or forums in seconds.

    9) Latest php, mysql, python, free shopping cart script AND MORE

    10) FREE SITE BUILDER with which you create your very first websites quickly

  8. In order to have a website you will need the website files which include pages and images and anything else (like shopping cart software if you need it). Then, you will need to sign up at a hosting site in order to have those files put on a web server. Once your files are on a web server, people will be able to access them and your website will be available for everyone to view. Of course, you will also need to get a web address so that people know what to type in the address bar in order to access your files. Thus, you will also want to get a domain name (yourname.com or yourname.net or yourname.org or yourname.something)

If you want further help with all of this I would suggest you get in contact with the people at http://www.hostamina.com - they provide web servers/hosting and they also provide website building services, which is basically everything you need.

  9. hosting site - which stores your online pages

web server - A computer that delivers (serves up) Web pages. Every Web server has an IP address and possibly a domain name.

I am using Bluehost as my hosting site

  10. When I started building websites, I was confused which web hosting to go for. Now I am clear about which web hosting provider is good and reliable. For your information concerned with choosing web hosting, I have selected top web hosting providers.

  11. The thing with hosting is their are so many options out there. Some options are overpriced, some hosts are down way more then they are up. Another thing with hosting is that its unlike anything else, you dont get what you pay for, we have used expensive hosts where uptime was in the low to mid 80's and have used cheap hosting that has been in the high 90's, but at the same time it has went the other way to, its all about trial and error. You can check out a couple reviews for easy and cheap webhosts at http://bargainking.net to get a better understanding about prices out there.
