Hot dogs are sausages, so way back when, they used to be made of ground meat (a combination of beef, pork, turkey, or chicken, usually with more beef, and salt and seasoning) pumped through intestine, which was then twisted off to make the individual hot dogs and cured or smoked. Nowadays, many companies use vegetable tubes instead of intestine, and there are probably a lot of preservatives. Kosher hot dogs contain no intestine and no pork.

Well....  One time in elementary when I was eating a school lunch that was serving hotdogs, as I was eating and finally bit into the middle there was this strong clear plastic wrapped around it.  So to answer your question...........
