  1. "Hocus Pocus" - a corruption of "hoc est corpus meum", "this is my body" - the words said by the Roman Catholic priest in the old Tridentine Mass as he purported to turn the wafer of bread into the actual body of Christ.

As a travesty of the words of consecration in the Mass it became a stock phrase for conjurers and fake magicians who were pretending to effect the magical transformation of one thing into another.

These days it describes any bit of deceptive business which attempts of confuse and bamboozle people, usually as part of a scam cheating them out of money.

I think you may be thinking of a "hex" - an evil spell (from the Greek word "hexe" a witch).

  2. Houcus was just a ryme for the fairy tales about witches casting spells for example "Houcus Poucus"

  3. its a curse. Bad luck. You name it. A hocous could be

anything having to do with bad luck

  4. She was probably referencing the term hocus pocus, a made up phrase little children associate with magic. She probably meant that a hocus is like a spell, and implying it would be bad.
