Question:

What is a house(on a street) separated by?

Hi, today I talked with my neighbor about his fence, because I thought it was on MY property. I thought it was beacuse there is a painted line(no its REAL, not graffiti or anything) between our properties on the sidewalk, and the fence was over the line, making it on my property. HE said it wasnt because the properties are seperated by a "pin" in the ground. Is this true or is he a lying hoax? I just need to know if the properties are seperated by the pin, or that painted line.

Thanks,

  1. Do you own your house if so when you bought it you prob had a survey done and it will tell you where your property lines are

  2. When a plot of land is surveyed and laid out, a good survey company will drive iron or steel pins or pipes into the ground to mark the boundaries.  This is so they can be easily found with a metal detector,  Some companies will also mark these markers with the coordinates and name of the company.  Since painted lines are not permanent, survey companies would not use them.  It is more likely that the line is there to mark something else like a water main, cable line or something.

  3. I have heard some cities use pins in the ground that the surveyor can use to find property lines.

  4. Usually there are survey pins on all property lines .... the PIN is the determining factor .... of where a property line ends and the other begins ....

If you don't have a copy of the survey to your peoperty , go to the courthouse and get one .... then it will PROVE if the fence is on your property or not ...

  5. I'm not sure because it varies in different areas and states. Contact your building company if possible or real estate agent. They should be able to help.

  6. Get the property surveyed .
