What is a hurricane?

If I asked you that, what would you tell me? It's for my science project and for some reason I can't write much information. I've only got a paragraph and that isn't enough. It's such a broad question that I don't exactly know what to answer.

Can someone give me facts, and information on it if you know any? Also, how it could affect land, nature, and humans?

Thanks. Write as much as you want. I will read every word of it.

  1. A hurricane is a specific type of low pressure system that derives it's energy from the release of latent heat through massive amounts of condensation.  That is why they need to be over very warm tropical waters in order to grow and maintain strength.  Instead of writing a whole lot more, I think it would be easier if you went to the question portion of the National Hurricane Center's web site, where you will find a lot more info.  Here it is: http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/tcfaq...

  2. go to www.noaa.gov and or weather.com and look up the info. there! they should be able to give all the data you need.
