  1. it runs on gasoline while the electric battery is charging, and then runs off of the elictric motor :) hence the name hybrid

  2. A vehicle that is powered by a combination of gas or diesel engine plus battery powered motors.

Usually the batteries are charged by either the internal combustion engine, or by movement of he vehicle during electical braking. So, stopping returns part of the power it took to start the vehicle, to be used again to start it,

Some vehicles like Prius are able to propel themselves entirely by battery power while others use it only to supplement the internal combustion engine.

Some, like Prius, may be charged up before leaving home, some will be charged up only when  the engine is running or  car is braking.

  3. Engine rotates generator which charges a battery, then

electric motors turn wheels through a varible speed transmission which also charges the battery through the wheels.

When the batt. is charged to a perscribed level the engine then shuts off while vehicle continues making ground giving

    a MPG.

  4. Its a car that doesent use gas fuel instead its a car you plug in and the battery charges thru an outlet

  5. A auto that runs with electric and gasoline

  6. A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is a vehicle which combines a conventional propulsion system with an on-board rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) to achieve better fuel economy than a conventional vehicle without being hampered by range from a charging unit like a battery electric vehicle, which uses batteries charged by an external source. The different propulsion power systems may have common subsystems or components.

Regular HEVs most commonly use an internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric batteries to power electric motors. Modern mass produced HEVs prolong the charge on their batteries by capturing kinetic energy via regenerative braking, and some HEVs can use the combustion engine to generate electricity by spinning an electrical generator (often a motor-generator) to either recharge the battery or directly feed power to an electric motor that drives the vehicle. Many HEVs reduce idle emissions by shutting down the ICE at idle and restarting it when needed. An HEV's engine is smaller and may be run at various speeds, providing more efficiency.
