  1. An Independent Clause is a clause that can stand on it's own, and the subordinate clause depends on the other part of the sentence to make sense and be a sentence, In easier terms, it is also called the dependent clause.

    I Made another batch of cookies, after Alicia ate them all.

    I made another batch of cookies -> this can stand as a sentence alone and needs nothing else to make sense

    after Alicia at them all. --> doesn't make much sense in the English language alone.
