What is a jack number?

I have to register my laptop to a program at school and it says that I have to type in the jack number, but i don't know what it is

If you take a close look at the internet drop you are plugging into, you will probably see a label of some sort on it with characters. Copy those characters down and try inputting this.

the jack ID number is added to the event log so the net admin can track the jack/port number to the MAC for security.
