  1. On a sailboat the "foresail" is the "jib", it's the triangular sail at the front of the boat.  It's purpose is to balance the forces that drive the boat forward.  A "spinnaker" is a specialized sail used to add power when sailing "downwind".  It's the brightly colored sail that "billows" in front of the boat. It it particularly useful in low wind speeds.

  2. A jib is the "front sail" on a sailboat which attaches to the forestay and the mast using either "hanks" or a roller-furling, the entire length of the luff. and the tack, which attaches it to the deck. The jib, or larger genoa allows the boat to sail any point-of-sail. (Not directly into the wind however.)

A spinnaker is made of light, usually brightly-coloured nylon, is attached to the mast only at the head and is used as an off-the-wind sail only.

    Hope this helps!

  3. they go on blow boats  not power boats

  4. A jib is a size of fore sail, which is attached  at the mast and at the bow, a spinnaker is only attached at the mast and the other corners are controlled by long ropes.

Other foresails are genoa, which is like a big jib and comes back beyond the mast

  5. A jib is a small triangular shaped sail that goes in front of the mast. A spinnaker is the huge parachute shaped sail that people like to put pictures and logos on. This is used when the wind is directly behind you. The jib is used to maneuver the boat against the wind.
