I think it is the time frame after a woman has ovulated, but how will I be able to tell? How long should it last for?

  1. The luteal phase is the time between ovulation and the next period, and it usually lasts at least 12 days. You need ovulate and get a period to exactly know the length of the luteal phase.

There are two phases of the ovulation cycle or menstrual cycle:

    1. The Follicular Phase

    2. The Luteal Phase

The Follicular Phase: This is the part of the menstrual cycle between menstruation and ovulation. It ends at the time of ovulation. It is named "Follicular Phase" because that is the time of the growth and development of the ovarian follicles (which contain oocytes, or eggs).

The Luteal Phase: This is the part of the cycle that starts at ovulation and ends the day before the next menses begins. It is named after the corpus luteum, the area in the ovary after ovulation where the egg came out. The corpus luteum produces progesterone to prepare the body for pregnancy.

  2. um

  3. the leutal phase is the day after you ovulate until you get your period!!! any thing more then 10days is good. this is the time that the egg has to fertilize and implant, if theres not enough time then they egg might be fertilized but not have the time to implant! you can test by charting your temp(i couldnt it was to hard 4 me) or by using home ovulation kits(i did this for 9 months, and found it to be easier then the temp thing) i found out that i have a short leutal (9-11 days)but i still conceived on my own!! so good luck and i hope this helps:)
