  1. The "liberal arts" are the name of types of classes or subjects that make up a classical or general education. In todays modern colleges and universities these are commonly art, literature, language, philosophy, history, mathematics, and science.

    So, in other words, any basic math class like algebra that everyone is required to take would be considered liberal arts.

    Liberal arts colleges are those that focus on general education, instead of  a trade school for example which spends much less time on general education and may have few or no classes on the above mentioned subjects.
