  1. Assuming you are also going to get your own gear (not renting boards), you'll NEED the following;

    -Jacket

    -Pants

    -Warm, thick socks.

    -Gloves

-Some sort of warm hat/beanie or a helmet

    -Board

    -Bindings

    -Boots

-some layering clothes like lohn johns or some Under Armour.

    -Goggles

The gloves, jacket and pants MUST BE WATERPROOF. Either get something made with Gore-Tex or just about every clothing manufacturer has some sort of water proof gear. Even if you have a cheap rain coat like a EMS or Northface, you can still use that with some proper layering of clothes just fine.  DO NOT chintz and get water resistant. There is a huge difference. Water resistant gear will, inevitably, get wet and leave you soaked. The gloves, I can't stress enough, need to waterproof as well. For the jacket and pants, try and look for ones that have some sort of vents in them. They do prove quite useful out on the slopes.

Boots are essentially boots. No one really makes bad boots but they will need to be comfortable to you. If they're not water proof, don't even bother since your boots will be the first thing that gets wet obviously. Your boots should be snug but not cutting-off-the-circulation tight. If you can wiggle your toes, you should be fine. May also want to try on a boot with your normal shoe size as well as one, one size bigger to feel which one suits you better.

Whether you're a beginner, novice or advanced, it's always a good idea to get a helmet. You can get ones that are insulated too so they'll keep your head warm without having to wear a beanie or anything.

As for the board and bindings, that's all you. Personally, I believe the bindings, and especialy the board, are a reflection of one true self. Pick out something you REALLY like and not something you're okay with cuz it was cheap. When it comes to the board/bindings, go big. This being snowboarding and all, lots of people will go out there with sick threads but crappy gear. You want to make sure you leave an impression with both your clothes AND your gear. For the board/binding setup, I'd highly recommend Burton. In all honesty, there is simply nothing better than Burton boards/bindings. Don't Don't Don't get cheap board/bindings. They're cheap for a reason. Pony up and get some sick @ss gear that will last you a long time.

The layering clothes and goggles are up to you really. You should have, at least, some sort of under shirt while you're out. Most pants will have some sort of flannel lining or something in them that will keep your legs warm. Same with jackets too but you want to be toasty rather than cold out there. I prefer Under Armour myself (Cold Gear) since those do a great job of being warm and lightweight. Goggles are somewhat important but most people have issues with wearing them and still be able to see the contours of the snow. Best advice is to make sure you get good lenses in your goggles and you should be fine. What will help when buying goggles is put them on and look at a white wall somewhere. If you can see all the little dings and scratches on the wall, you should be good with those goggles. Usually, the iridium (shiny, chrome type lenses) are the best ones to get. Also, you may want to get some sort of neck gaiter or something to protect you from windburn or sunburn both of which result in the ever popular redneck burn. Hoods are good for this but not sure if you're the hood type or not.

SInce the season is over now, you can get pretty much everything cheap or even on clearance. eBay especially will have lots of deals from people looking to get rid of their old gear or shops clearing out last year's merchandise to make room for next years goods.

  2. helmet! that's so important, especially if you're a beginner. There's nothing wrong with wearing a helmet! I wear one all the time, and now they have nice colours/styles so wearing a helmet no longer makes you look like a "dork". I love bern helmets especially.

GOGGLES. you won't see a thing without goggles.

gloves! i have yet to find "the perfect pair"

    ummmm warm socks, nice boots.

nice bindings! its not fun snapping your toe strap the first day of the season :(

  3. Hey! Is this going to be your first time snowboarding? Well, it's a lot of fun! When I first started snowboarding, what i wore was a little different than from now (5 years difference) because I wasn't use to the temperature.

What I started off with (and still do) is my thermal top and bottom or "long johns" or "long underwear".  These keep you really warm, and they are comfortable as well. Columbia makes really nice ones.

Next, socks (I use "Pepper" brand).  Now, hear comes the part where you decide; i use to wear sweat pants over my thermals and under my snowboard pants, but not any more.  If you get really cold, try it out.

Next, I also use to wear a thin sweatshirt over my thermal top, and under my snowcoat, which sometimes I still do, depending on the temperature; i guess this is really based off your own personal preference.

Next, you're doing to need a snow coat. Here are some good things to look at in a coat:

    -Water proof (duh!)

-Vents under the arm pits (I love those, lol)

-Sleeves that your arm goes in, and cover your hand, but leaves you the thumb and finger holes (this is so snow wont go down your coat arm)

-Zipper pockets, for keys, wallet, phone, ect.

-A google wipe attached to the inside (not necessary, but always useful)

Next, goggles.  I like Sims, but that's just me. I guess you should think about the colors; I like the blue ones better than the reds and oranges, because they don't totally change the color of everything, they just dim them down.

Next, a face mask.  These are REALLY important, because your mouth is a sure part of your body to get cold, and a face mask is great to have, especially with the wind blowing on your face on the ski lift, or when you're on summit, where winds are usually a lot higher in speed.

    Next, gloves

    -water proof

    -can tighten at wrist

have large loops that you tighten around your arm, so that if you take the glove/mitten (I prefer mittens) it will not all.  (Great for ski lifts!!!)

    note: Dakine has nice gloves/mittens

Boots: I dont know a lot about what makes a good boot, a good boot, so I'll let u figure that one out on your own

Next, a stomp pad for your board.  Not necessary, but great to help you keep your balance when getting off the lift.

Next, HELMET! Hats are nice, but helmets are awsome! they obvioustly keep you safe, but they are EXTREMELY warm and comfortable, and they cover your ears (toasty!) Plus, they are great for holding in your head phones if you listen to music while riding.

okay, well, if i think of any more, I'l let you know!

  4. -Nice comfortable boots that your toes wont be bent at the end at

-Obviously a board (lol) But make sure it's not to long, it should line up with the middle of your eyes or maybe if you're a beginner your chin or the tip of the nose

-WARM mittens, i don't recomend gloves because they're not as warm. If you wear mittens, your fingers will be close together and will be able to share their heat and will be a lot warmer.

-DEFINITELY a helmet, you never know what might happen and if you're a beginner a helmet shouldn't even be optional, you never know when you might accidently go out of control and crash. (I use one and i've been boarding for 3 or 4 years) I'd rather wear something that'll protect my head rather than a dinky hat that'll only make me look better

-A nice warm coat, make sure it has lining and is waterproof. you might want to consider wearing a nice sweatshirt under it too.

-VERY warm snowpants! HAVE TO BE WATERPROOF!!! If you're just starting you'll be falling on your butt a lot, i guarentee it. So the snow will totally soak down your butt, then it'll be ice cold and you'll get sick.

-Goggles, they'll help you see when it's snowing or when the ski resort is making snow rather than you're eyes watering from the snow and chilly but dry wind, making hard to see. (Trust me, you want to be able to see...)

And that's probably all you're going to need, maybe wrist braces if you have bad wrists cuz if you fall foreward, most people put their hands out to brace themselves but that'll sprain your wrist.

    Hope this helps!!

  5. Read all of the other answers and add several good friends and lots of money, also dancing shoes and a towel to dry off after the hot tub.  Also some large zip lock bags to make ice packs for your muscles and a friend for a massage, be sure to reciprocate.

  6. season just ended but for next year you'll need a COMFORTABLE pair of boots. beleive me us snowboarders cram our feet into boots and come out with really screwed up feet. get a really nice pair like some burton tributes. you'll need snowpants, helmet i recomend but i don't use one, but if ur a beginner u might need one, um beanie duhh! gloves, jacket, some underarmour cause it gets pretty cold, bandana for your neck if you're not a beginner, thick socks for your boots but not too thick. that's all i can think of. if you have a pinnacle or sunny breeze near you then i'd definitely go there i love both stores

  7. I'll make a nice list of what I'm usually using

    -snowboard

    -bindings

    -boots

-Under clothing (hot chilies, under amour, etc.)

    -Snowboard pants

    -Snowboard Jacket

-2 pairs of gloves (one will get wet)

-Wool socks (bring an extra pair of regular socks for after wards)

    -HAT!! (beanie)

-goggles (don't under estimate the importance of these)

    These are my basic necessities
