  1. A Local wind is a small-scale wind produced by a locally generated pressure gradient. Some example: Sea breeze, mountain breeze, valley breeze.

  2. Local differences in temperature and air pressure create small-scale,regional or localised winds. These are called local winds. The variations in temperature and pressure occur particularly  in coastal regions, and mountain ranges or because of intense heating in inland desert areas.

Examples are (1)sea and land breeze (2) anabatic and katabatic winds and (3) fohn wind.

  4. I agree with Dianamrt.  However, there are local winds that have a name.  One is called a mountain wave that suddenly appears out of a clear blue sky near Brocket, Alberta and the Peigan Reserve.  It is awesome and lasts about 20 -30 minutes. If the local people have a name for it, I don't know it.  Another is experienced on the west shore of Cape Breton Island and is called (I'll use phonetics, because I don't know how to spell it) soowit. That's all I can think of as far as a local name is concerned.
