A major source of air pollution is the lowly volcano.  An erupting volcano will spew more "pollutants" into the air than cars and industry for the past ten years.  You may also want to identify what is air pollution.  Some folks would say that volcanic eruptions are a natural phenomena, not man made and there fore by definition are not polluting.  Others define substances in the air that harm humans as pollution.  Others define a change in the air composition as pollution nevermind the source or upon whom or what there are harmful effects.  But if you are merely discussing pollution from the standpoint of "common understanding"  Naturally occurring events, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, thunder storms, tornados, earthquakes, provide more "pollution" than all manmade sources.  Natural vegetative decomposition is also highly polluting making human gas, cow gas, swamp gas and all other decomposition that creates gases a major source.  Of course coal fired electric production has been and continues to be a "dirty" process.  Farming with the large and small particulate production is a "dirty" process as well.  All manufacturing creates particulate issues and as many are discovering, small particulates may be more harmful than the ones we can see.   I hope you will give your answer some thought.  Is pollution too much of something that we need some of, is it too little of other stuff, is it manmade only or in discussing this issue should you consider all sources of substances defined as pollutants.  Its interesting in a philosophical way, to consider that modernization was once considered the purvue of youth, old people only wanted to do things the traditional way.  Now modernization is a conservation, conserve things the way they were.  Interesting.  PS.  Mars is warming up too.

AL GORE, then I'll add: All them dope smokin hippies from the 60's that caim to know more than everyone else. Remember those people were taking a lot of drug back then. How many visions did they see, and how many brain cells got fried.....

Another major source of air pollution are power plants that burn coal to create electricity.  If we could change over from coal burning power plants to "greener" more renewable sources of energy we could greatly reduce carbon emissions.  In turn, this would help with the global warming issue.

Cow farts aside, the major cause of air pollution is still the automobile, by fat, the least efficient machine at burning fossile fuels and responsible for billions of tons per year of NOx and COx and SOx being emitted to the atmosphere.  Compared to the auomobile, cow farts are a distant second place.
