What is a major theme in fahrenheit 451?

i have to do a summer assignment on fahreneit 451 for school. i have to pick a major theme on the book and then quote some sentences on it and write a paper about it. everytime i look it up, it says the main theme is censorship but im not quite sure what that means? help!

  1. oh i had to read that book for school too! the main theme is censorship. we did a whole report on it because the censorship is in how they hide things. they don't let the public read books, they do not really appreciate people who speak against it. i think though, that you should read "between the lines" of the book, you'll see that.


  2. haha i have to read that for school too. are you gonna be a frosh? its about the near future, where reading books is illegal. when people dont read and all they do is watch tv and work, it lets the government control their minds. Then a "fireman" named montag, who burns books and novels, he meets a 17 year old and she convinces him to read. He gets addicted to it and finds his real self. his wife finds the books and wants him to get rid of them, but he refuses, so she reports him to the firemen. They go to his house to burn the books, and give montag the flamethrower to burn his books. he says no, but they take out a gun. Then he torches their asses and runs away to this forest with the whole swat team and stuff after him its awesome. and in the forest there's a society that memorizes novels, so that they can never be burnt. and thats it
