A subset is a part of a set.  It could be the null set up to and including thw whole set  E.g.  if the set is { 1,4,5,8,9 }  a subset could be

{ }  or  { 1, 8 }  or  { 1, 5, 8, 9 } or { 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 } or any other part/grouping of the set.
