1998 NASCAR season, good or bad?

Mine is from the 1998 Spring Bristol race. It was about 80+ degrees and I got really sunburnt. That was also around the time I started liking Jeff Gordon, because I didn't understand why people were booing him, even though he went on to win the race...so I started liking him more and more after that race, and still do.

What is something you remember from the 1998 NASCAR season?

  1. Daytona 500

  2. Dale Sr. finally conquered the elusive Daytona 500!  And, Dale Jr. won his first Cup race at the Coka-Cola 300 in Texas.  It was a very good year.

    Go Jr.>>>>

  3. I guess nothing stands out like Dale Sr. winning the Daytona 500.  I remember the party and everyone on their feet yelling at our TV, beer all over the place, we talked about it for a long time.  I don't know who was happier, Dale or us. We went on to a local racing bar and everyone was still celebrating in there.   We didn't go to work the next day.

LOL  Then next night David Letterman had him on and he did his own top 10 list and it was funny.  I still go to YouTube and watch it once in awhile and it's like he is still here.

FLUFFY??? DID I read that right??? 205 in a 65 MPH zone???  LOL

I think Tony just made it official that he is trying to opt out of his last year and buy into HAAS.

  6. I was not a fan back then but the first thing that pops into my mind is Dale Earnhardt winning the Daytona 500.

  7. I was an active street racer in '98 (motorcycle) and every weekend I had to travel 150 miles to a very small town in the middle of nowhere to see my girlfriend. I didn't even own a T.V., so I wasn't watching too much NASCAR, but I sure remember '98!

  8. In 1998, Jeff Gordon took them all to school and won 13 races.  That's a very good memory.

There were some other notable wins that season, too.  Earnhardt, Sr. at Daytona, Bobby Labonte at Talladega, Terry Labonte at Richmond.......That was a very good year!

  9. Hey thats cool its almost the same thing that happened to me my boyfriend kinda got into Nascar before me....Actually I was one of those " I cant belive u sit around and watch cars drive around in circles etc etc.  Friends of ares were nascar fans and it just so happened we were at their house for the weekend so when sunday they stared to watch the race & I  really had no intentions to watch it.  I remember it was the last race of the season 2005.. Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson were racing for the championship.  Anyways I ended up watching most of that race and to my suprise I actually enjoyed it.  So for the following year we made plans to go back to are friends and we were going to watch the Daytona race together.  While watching that race they informed me that I had to choose a fav driver anyways my boyfriend is a huge Tony Stewart fan and my friends serious Dale Jr ones.  Now all 3 of them HATE Jeff Gordon and just like u have to have a fav driver u also have to have at least 1 driver u cant stand.  So I decided that who ever won the race would be my driver.  Gordon won so with that and the fact that I had seen him on Regis & Kelly when he co-hosted while Regis was away.  I thought he was cute and charming & way funny.  Not to mention that he's only 1 of a few "GREAT"  nascar drivers.  The fact that he wins alot of races and that everyone bitched about him was just all the more reason I wanted him for my driver.  Now Im like a die hard fan and Jeff is still my #1 driver.
